In tragic news Yankee Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto passed away at the age of 89. Rizzuto was famous for his play at shorstop for the Yankees where he was a member of 7 world series teams and a 5 time All Star. The next generation of baseball fans remember Rizzuto for his famous “Holy Cow!” after Roger Maris hit #61. He entertained fans for generations as a radio and TV personality. Of course to the younger generation he was known only as a difficult cursive word to write in the Adam Sandler comedy Billy Madison.
Rizzuto’s No. 10 was retired by baseball’s most storied team, and the club will wear his number on its left sleeves for the rest of the season.
The flags at Yankee Stadium were lowered to half-staff before Tuesday night’s game against Baltimore and a bouquet was placed by Rizzuto’s plaque at Monument Park. A moment of silence was held and a video tribute played on the center field scoreboard screen.
However you are remembered, we at APIAS.net send our condolences to your family, friends and Yankee nation as they morn the loss of Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto.
