Tigers Opening Day, not a moment too soon

by

Today is the day we’ve been waiting on since last October, with an injury-depleted squad desperately and valiantly trying to catch the hated Indians down the stretch.  The time for eulogizing and  should’ve-beens is over.  The time for hope and promise has arrived.

Stocked with returning allstars and upgraded talent at nearly every needed position, healthy arms in the rotation, and unprecedented expectations, the 2008 Tigers begin what we all expect to be a championship run today at 1pm.

I, for one, will be at the local watering hole watching every pitch.

In the every-season-opening words of Hall of Fame Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell, Song of Solomon 2:12.

Audio here.

“For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
 the flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
TIME TO PLAY BALL!”

It’s baseball season friends.  And I couldn’t be more ready.
