2008 Oakland A’s Season Blog, The Exodus (11-8)

by

Well the housewives in the Bay Area will be frustrated tomorrow as all the brooms will be at the ballpark.  The A’s go for their second sweep of the year tomorrow at home against the Royals.  Tonight the A’s had another one of their patented come backs.  They got down early to K.C. but these young guys won’t quit.

Greg Smith threw another solid start.  He was a little rocky in the early going and gave up a couple of mistakes to Guillen and Olivo.  He settled down to throw 5 solid innings though but didn’t get a win for his efforts.

Joey Devine picked up his second win of the year with two more scoreless innings.  That’s now 5 appearances with 7 and a third innings of scoreless baseball for Joey.  Alan Embree and Huston Street finished the job in the eighth and ninth for the A’s.  Street picked up his fifth save and Embree picked up his second all-important hold.

The A’s looked good at the plate scoring 6 runs on 16 (twice EIGHT!) hits.  Four walks brought the total baserunners up to 20.  A solid performance but you would like to see more than 30% of your baserunners make it around to score.

No long balls today as the A’s continue to play Class “E” softball.  Daric Barton was credited with a triple on the day but no one circled the bases for the green and gold.  Kurt Suzuki led off and went 1-5.  Not ideal for the lead off man but this is the position that I love seeing him hit in.  TGC and I discussed this the other night and I alluded to it early in the year.

Unfortunately the Angels can do no wrong right now so the A’s don’t make up any ground in the West.  Every win is a good win though and maybe the brooms will get broken out and Seattle can finally take down the Angels on Sunday.  Until then, enjoy the games, enjoy some brews, and most importantly, if you actually believe those were Mila’s boobs in “…Sarah Marshall” I’ve got a get rich scheme that you need to e-mail me about pronto.
