SEC Tourney Preview: Alabama/Florida vs. Miss. State

by

sectourney.jpgIf you’ve ever read APIAS.net then you probably figured out that we have an affinity for sports in the South.  And, it just so happens that our collective favorite basketball teams both play in the SEC.  What better reason than to write a full-on SEC Tournament preview.  We’ll give a quick rundown of the Quarterfinal matchups, and then the teams the winners will face.  Hopefully, at the end, one of us will be so moved to conclude it all and we’ll give you who we think will win.

Remember when Ronald Steele went down with an injury and managed to drag the Alabama basketball season with him?  Well, weep no more because it’s almost over and the University of Alabama school newspaper can finally end its obligated articles on the basketball team.  The 16-15 Crimson Tide will meet the “don’t doubt my formula, it’s going to work again” Billy Donovan coached Florida Gators in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

JimiThe only bright spot for the struggling Tide is Richard Hendrix.  The long lost son of Jimi is averaging a double-double and made the SEC first team.  Neither his double-double nor a revitalizing version of “Foxy Lady” can spark an Alabama victory.

Florida comes in needing a great showing (finals berth)  in the tournament to go dancing.  They’ll get out of the first round easily by putting 4 of the 5 best players on the floor.

Next up for the Gators will be SEC West Champion, Mississippi State.  The Bulldogs are led by “Why didn’t I get more help, I feel like Kevin Garnett in Minnesota; why didn’t I go somewhere else? I was one of the best in the country coming out of high school, I hate Mississippi; how much longer am I going to complain about this? Okay just one more, why did I decide to wear #44, what respectable guard wears #44?” Jamont Gordon.  Big Jarvis Varnado gets off his feet faster than anyone in the SEC since Gimel Martinez (please laugh now).  Varnado and Gordon lead the way but the youthful Gators however avenge a March 3 loss to Mississippi State and move on into the semi-finals.
