Fulmer interviews Clemson’s Rob Spence

The search for a new Vols Offensive Coordinator has taken two discerning turns this week with Trooper Taylor accepting a similar position with Oklahoma State–though Troop will have no playcalling duties–and The Great Pumpkin interviewing current Clemson OC Rob Spence.

Spence has a proven history of high-ranking scoring offenses at both Clemson and Tulsa (6 of 7 years finishing in the Top 25), and Tennessee meanwhile has 0 such feats in the same timeframe.  My personal #1 choice would still be the Saints’ Doug Marrone, but I think Spence would do a good job should Fulmer choose to add him.

He was most recently courted by Alabama and the NFL’s Oakland Raiders in 2006, and turned down the same position with Minnesota last year as well.

Kudos to the Big Orange for  (at least seemingly) conducting a search outside the locker room.
