Kentucky Basketball: Switch to Pancakes. Pancakes!

Well, well.  Ol’ Billy G’s welcome to the Bluegrass hasn’t quite gone as expected now has it?  All the hopes and dreams of a Commonwealth were put on one man’s shoulders several shorts months ago and now it’s all looking pretty gray…Or is it?

So they lost to Appalachian State Gardner Webb.  So they got pounded by North Carolina (anyone who says that was close based on final score alone is crazy).  Oh yeah, they also got trounced by Indiana.  What was that?  Alex Legion quit?  Damn, looking pretty grim.  Looks rough for Billy G now, but you know what?  The man has a plan, and it’s a good one.  For more pancakes, just hit MORE!

First off, the three big losses so far.  What did people expect of Gillispie?  Step right in and win a championship?  Look how far that got Tubbs.

The man is without two of the best players on the team this year.  Two of the guys with the most experience.  Arguably the two best actual teammates that are returning from last year.  Meeks and Jasper are both good players if they play Joe Crawford or Ramel Bradley style of ball, but they don’t.  They actually pass the ball, look for teammates, and make the team as a whole better.  And Billy G. is without both for a long time.

Doubters will point toward Alex Legion’s leaving the team as a sign that the young coach is losing control of his team.  That’s just horseshit.  You know why Billy didn’t nip that in the bud?  Because he needed Legion to leave.

Some will say, “yeah he needed a 4-star guard who could fill it up to leave.”  I argue he did.  The reason is simple.  White kids.  No, he wasn’t trying to clear the way for white kids, he let the Legion situation get out of control so he can sack some white kids.

Two simple words: Jared Carter.  He may be a great kid but he sure as Hell doesn’t know what to do with a basketball.  Billy G. sees kids like this in his program and wonders why Tubby ever let them walk on.  Then an assistant leans over and says “Uh, Coach he’s on scholarship.”  Gillispie proceeds to piss himself.  Trust us, that’s exactly how it went down when he found out UK was actually paying for a couple of these guy’s education.

But Gillispie could never walk right in and get rid of J. Carter.  Why?  One reason is because he’s a hometown, Kentucky boy who grew up nearby.  The other, and definitely bigger part, is that Carter is a white boy.  You do not walk right into the University of Kentucky head job and start cutting white kids who grew up in Bluegrass.

Oh, but now he’s had a 4-star athlete decide to look other places to play.  Now all of a sudden he has this reputation for not getting along with players.  It becomes a little easier to inadvertently push some of the “hand-me-downs” out before they’ve served 4 years.  Trust us folks, the  man knows what he’s doing.

Hell, only time will tell if Gillispie is going to make a good or bad mark at UK.  We think he’s still a Hell of a coach, but who knows if pressure will drive him over the line?  Who knows if he just gets fed up and waves the big “you’re number one” at the administration?  Let’s hope it doesn’t happen, and let’s hope all goes smoothly in the next few years as UK rebuilds.

Oh, and the title is mainly due to the fact that I’ve been whipping up a big, fluffy stack of delicious flapjacks whilst typing this out.  And I burned one of them thanks to my concentration on bringing you bastards some terrible writing.  I hope you’re happy with yourselves!

That is the single worst logic I’ve ever heard related to sports strategy.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

    Basketball Backboards, Systems, Rims…

So what does this all mean? I think we really did accomplish our goals. We asked kids on Thursday what they would improve, and what we heard more than anything else (other than “Feed us!”) was that the institute was too short. They would have rather …
