Duke Crews reinstated; Vulcans open arena

by

dukecrews.jpgTennessee Coach Bruce Pearl has reinstated returning center Duke Crews to the team.  With the loss of Wayne Chism to a concussion for an undetermined amount of time, this will give the Vols plenty of front court help for newcomer Tyler Smith and big white dude Ryan Childress.  No word yet on whether Crews’ 5 inch front-faced-rat-tail chin hair will be joining him in his return.

Tonight, the Vols begin their most hyped and promising basketball season since before Pong in an exhibition game against the confusingly named D-II California (Pa.) Vulcans.  Last season, the Vulcans gave Maryland all they wanted in an exhibition, losing 79-78.

Tonight’s contest also marks the grand re-opening of Thompson Boling Arena, complete with indoor Skyboxes (however they hell they pulled that off), loge seating, and a center court, 4-sided Jumbotron.  Also, gone are the all-orange seats in place of shiny new black ones.  I actually happen to know where exactly one of the old orange seats resides.

I think the jumbotron will get in the way.

I was wondering how long it would take one of you jackasses to make that lame joke. Congratulations, there’s another bet I won…. to myself!

  3. BobWicket Says:

Dammit smooth you beat me to it.

  4. BobWicket Says:

    Stupid long lunch.

  5. TheGoldfishCowboy Says:

Is all this commenting tom-foolery supposed to serve as distraction to the clear fact that TBA is now simply better than Rupp in every aspect?

  6. smoothron Says:

Except of course for the actual product on the court… and the mystique… and the tradition… oh yeah, and the 7 banners hanging up in the rafters, for men’s basketball.

  7. TheGoldfishCowboy Says:

You’ll throw out the “product on the court” argument after one preseason game? That’s big money you’re talking smooth, big money…

Also, How does tradition, or 7 banners (men’s) make this year’s Rupp Arena superior, or for that matter, this year’s “product on the court”?

  8. smoothron Says:

    We’ll find out in January…

  9. TheGoldfishCowboy Says:

How will we possibly find out in January which arena is superior? I think it’s clear.

Nobody was talking about players or games or championships until you needed it to supplement your argument for your Arena.

I’m simply saying Thompson Boling Arena is the #1 Arena in all of college basketball. Now superior to Rupp. Now with more black (seats, you miscreants).

  10. BobWicket Says:

At least we have large red HVAC duct to compliment our nice blue seats. And who needs a jumbo-tron when you have the most unique speaker system in the entire country as your centerpiece?

  11. TheW Says:

They’re building a new arena in the next couple of years across the street from Rupp, so you can have your TBA for now, TGC. Wait until the new arena arrives, then we’ll see who’s bragging. And yes, those banners due make up for those HVAC duct eyesores.

  12. TheGoldfishCowboy Says:

I’m not saying the Vols will win the National Title this year, but I don’t think Undefeated is out of the question.

  13. Brewsky Says:

I think it is a truly nice stadium! I hope all of the respectful UT fans enjoy the men’s basketball season very much! Lets all clap for great friendship and sportsmanship!

    YAY
