Kevin Garnett: Eastern Conference Champion

by

doistillgettoshoot.jpgHell, even Doc Rivers can’t screw this one up.  Can he?!?!

The breaking news in the NBA world is that the Boston Celtics have traded (even more) of their future for present success.  They have agreed to a deal which sends Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair (waived), Ryan Gshouldhavestuckwith.jpgshouldhavestuckwith.jpgomes, Al Jefferson, and Theo Ratliff (or, more importantly, his expiring contract) to Minnesota for KG.  Obviously, the future (past three years) is in great jeopardy.  But, hell, it’s the Eastern Conference.  Drew Gooden, Anderson Vareajao, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas were major players in the Eastern Champs this past year.

The Celtics have made one hell of a trade… for the present.  They now have the most potent 1-2-3 combo in the conference.  An injury plagued Heat squad cannot contend, and the Pistons showed they aren’t the same team as they were in ‘0shouldhavestuckwith.jpg4, and the Cavs just don’t have the horses to contend with three superstars on one team.  Will the Celtics be the favorite to win the NBA Championship?  Absolutely not!  But, if the odds are 4-1 or higher, it’s definitely something worth looking at for a long, long time.

The starting lineup should consist of Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Kendrick Perkins.  The three All-Stars surrounded by Rondo and Perkins.  Rondo should be smart enough to know how to distribute to the Big Three; and Perkins knows he won’t be the go-to guy on offense.  Red Auerbach is laughing in his grave right now, this is a deal he absolutely would have pulled off.  The Celtics are going from Lottery-hopefuls to Conference Champions.  And, who knows what happens when you actually get to the Finals?

The big mystery remains, how did Danny Ainge manage to pull this off??

All they lack now is a decent head coach. Not so much an Xs and Os guy, but a shrink on the bench that can get three stars to figure out how to defer to one another for the good of the team.
