According to MLB.com Houston Astro Craig Biggio will be hanging it up after this season. Biggio spent his entire MLB career as an Astro and will retire with over 3,000 hits and 4oo steals.
“Retiring is not an easy thing to do,” Biggio told MLB.com. “But it’s time. How many guys get the opportunity to do it the way they want to do it? You’re pretty much writing your own story here, as far as walking away when you want to walk away. It’s not taken away.”
We here at APIAS.net would like to take this time to thank Mr. Biggio for playing baseball the right way. In an era full of lack luster effort, over sized contracts and egos bigger than the stadiums they play in, Craig Biggio played the game the right way. Always taking the extra base and crowding the plate were staples of Biggio’s career.
In an era where putting the team first are after thoughts to most players it’s nice to have a guy like Craig Biggio to watch. Biggio played any placed he was asked, never showed up a manager or another player. He treated America’s past-time with the respect some many of us have for it. It was never a job for Biggio or a way to make millions it was what he loved to do and still loves to do.
So Mr. Biggio have a great retirement. We here at APIAS.net hope that your retirement will spark a generation of crowding the plate, running out every fly ball, diving to make plays, loyalty and playing for the love of the game. So thanks to you, Craig Biggio; hopefully you’ll be in the hall of fame and always be remembered as the player you are.
