If you haven’t heard, China came down very harshly on Yao Ming for taking to much time getting to warm-ups for the national team this summer. Yao was obviously just screwing around… you know, planning a wedding, and visiting the Special Olympics. HOW DARE HE!; at least to the Chinese government. The China Sports Daily had this to say about Yao.
“No matter how lofty public welfare activities are, they can’t be allowed to take first place in a player’s life.”
Wow. Let’s be honest, it will probably make a kid’s life at the Special Olympics to see a guy like Yao, but dammit, he needs to be at warmup PRACTICE (We talkin’ bout practice?) for the Chinese National team. A team, mind you, that got beat by international powerhouse Italy by twenty points last Olympics.
Obviously, China wants to do well while they are hosting the Games next summer. But, can’t they give the guy a break? He is their best player… by far. He’s a top-five center in the best basketball league in the world. And, he’s really, really tall. Come on Chinese government, all the guy wants to do is marry freakishly large Chinese women, and go brighten some days at the Special Olympics. If that’s wrong (especially the part about large Chinese women), we at APIAS.net don’t want to be right.
Oh, and if they really want to be better at the Olympics, how about letting Yi play in the NBA? No matter where it is? It’s like the place is run by communists or something!
