In a shocking turn of events, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former University of Kentucky quarterback, Tim Couch to a two-year contract (TWO YEARS!?!?). Couch hasn’t played a down since 2004 in the NFL, and has had multiple surgeries in attempt to fix his oft-injured shoulder. His last stint in the NFL included bad pre-season outings with the Green Bay Packers where it appeared throws over 15-20 yards were out of the question. He didn’t even get the third-string job over NFL-great Craig Nall.
Obviously, it’s hard to disagree with the decision made by Couch. He’s going to make almost $600k next year, to more than likely be a third string QB. What the hell are the Jags thinking though? This is a team that was forced to use Quinn Gray at one point last season, and they’re thinking that Tim Couch is the answer? Byron Leftwich has injury problems, only playing in six games last year, and eleven in ‘05. David Garrard is a decent back-up, but if he were the an
swer, wouldn’t he have been elevated to starter status by now if he were that good?
Here’s a potential scenario for the Jags next year…
Byron Leftwich shows up not ready (see: fat) for camp, again this year. He’s the starter, so they stick with him. By the fourth or fifth week, his knee or ankle will give out due to his large frame. David Garrard steps in for a few weeks, and doesn’t perform well. Jags fans become restless, and there’s a former number one draft pick sitting there waiting in the wings. Whoops… it’s Tim F*#$ing Couch. Goodbye ‘07, hello Andre Woodson Sweepstakes!
Yikes! I’m guessing that’s not the dream season for Jags’ fans. Oh well… hopefully Tim will bring his Playmate wife, Heather Kozar. And, hey… at least it’s not Cade McNown.

Does it bother anyone that Jared Lorenzen is probably the most significant UK NFL quarterback still?

Pookie Jones takes a strong offense to that

After Andre Woodson gets drafted there will be 3 UK quarterbacks in the leauge…how long before Kentucky is known as Quaterback U?

Back-up Quarterback U. Has a nice ring to it.
July 29, 2007 at 8:05 pm |
you may be early on that count 2SL… rumor has it Lorenzen is in training with Joey Chitwood right now, so his 08 campaign is still up in the air

That would be a great selling point to young recruits.

Coach Del Rio said he’s a “Camp Arm” and he’s “not expecting much even though he was a 1st rounder” (high expectations for 1st rounders I guess)…
Go Jags – nice way to pass on Brady Q. in the draft.

In 2003 I made a stupid bet.
I bet my friend that Tim Couch would make a comeback and be so good that his computer player rating would be a 90 or above by the time Madden ‘09 was released. This comeback means I can still win the bet – if Tim Couch throws for 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns this season…
So yeah, I’m tellin’ you there’s a chance.

I can only hope he becomes the starter, so he, like Beckham, may one day pose half naked with his wife…I mean…wait…um…I want to see his wife…posing…and I will cut him out. of. the. picture. NO YELLING ON THE BUS.

In all fairness Cake Rocks the Party posted this story two weeks ago.

Yes, Bob, because it is VERY hard to find naked pics of his wife.

Peter King says it’s a no-money contract, so the two-years don’t mean squat. The Jags can cut him and not owe him a dime.

Its for the vetran minimum and no signing bonus so they can cut him without paying him a dime. I think its a good chance to take seeing they dont have any good QB’s on their roster.

They still don’t.

All he has to do is beat out the Jags other 3rd stringer who makes way more than the league minimum

Last week I gave Tim Couch $5 to wipe my whitewalls

Had Couch made it, that would have made 3 quarterbacks in the league and 4 once Woodson got drafted. Shane Boyd is the Cardinals 3rd string QB.
